Tour Itinerary

🗓️ Day 1: Moshi – Machame Gate – Machame Camp

After breakfast in Moshi, we drive to Machame Gate (1,800m) for registration. The hike begins through thick montane rainforest, where the air is humid and alive with birdsong and monkeys.

We arrive at Machame Camp by late afternoon, set just above the forest line, where our tents will be ready and a warm dinner waiting.

  • Elevation: 1,800m to 2,835m

  • Hiking Time: 5–7 hours

  • Habitat: Rainforest

🗓️ Day 2: Machame Camp – Shira Camp

Leaving the rainforest behind, the trail steepens as we climb into the moorland zone. The scenery opens up, revealing wide skies, volcanic rocks, and hardy alpine vegetation.

We arrive at Shira Camp, located on a high plateau with dramatic views of Kibo Peak. You’ll feel the elevation change here—perfect for acclimatization.

  • Elevation: 2,835m to 3,750m

  • Hiking Time: 4–6 hours

  • Habitat: Moorland

🗓️ Day 3: Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp (Climb High, Sleep Low)

A key acclimatization day. We climb to Lava Tower (4,630m), a striking volcanic formation. You’ll likely feel the altitude here—it’s part of the process.

After lunch, we descend to Barranco Camp (3,976m) in a beautiful valley framed by giant lobelia and senecio trees. This day is vital for your body to adjust.

  • Elevation: 3,750m to 4,630m (Lava Tower), then down to 3,976m

  • Hiking Time: 6–8 hours

  • Habitat: Alpine Desert to Moorland

🗓️ Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

The day starts with the thrilling Barranco Wall—a hands-on scramble offering incredible views from the top. From there, we trek through ups and downs in the alpine desert to Karanga Camp, our base for lunch and overnight rest.

This is a shorter day to allow recovery and gradual acclimatization before heading toward high camp.

  • Elevation: 3,976m to 3,995m

  • Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

  • Habitat: Alpine Desert

🗓️ Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

Today we ascend steadily through dry alpine terrain to Barafu Camp (4,673m)—your launchpad for summit night. You’ll arrive in the early afternoon to rest, hydrate, and prep for the final push.

After an early dinner, it’s lights out. Wake-up call comes around 11:00 PM for the midnight summit attempt.

  • Elevation: 3,995m to 4,673m

  • Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

  • Habitat: Alpine Desert

🗓️ Day 6: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

Summit day! Under the stars, we climb steeply up volcanic scree toward Stella Point (5,756m). From here, it’s a final ridge walk to Uhuru Peak (5,895m)—the roof of Africa.

After photos and celebration, we descend carefully back to Barafu Camp for a break, then continue down to Mweka Camp in the rainforest zone.

  • Elevation: 4,673m to 5,895m (summit), then down to 3,100m
