Nicknamed the “Whiskey Route”, the Machame Route is one of Kilimanjaro’s most popular and scenic trails—known for its diverse landscapes, great acclimatization profile, and high summit success rate. This 7-day version allows for a gradual ascent with a "climb high, sleep low" approach that helps your body adjust to the altitude—giving you a strong chance of reaching Uhuru Peak.

Tour Itinerary
🗓️ Day 1: Moshi – Machame Gate – Machame Camp
After breakfast in Moshi, we drive to Machame Gate (1,800m) for registration. The hike begins through thick montane rainforest, where the air is humid and alive with birdsong and monkeys.
We arrive at Machame Camp by late afternoon, set just above the forest line, where our tents will be ready and a warm dinner waiting.

🗓️ Day 2: Machame Camp – Shira Camp
Leaving the rainforest behind, the trail steepens as we climb into the moorland zone. The scenery opens up, revealing wide skies, volcanic rocks, and hardy alpine vegetation.
We arrive at Shira Camp, located on a high plateau with dramatic views of Kibo Peak. You’ll feel the elevation change here—perfect for acclimatization.

🗓️ Day 3: Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp (Climb High, Sleep Low)
A key acclimatization day. We climb to Lava Tower (4,630m), a striking volcanic formation. You’ll likely feel the altitude here—it’s part of the process.
After lunch, we descend to Barranco Camp (3,976m) in a beautiful valley framed by giant lobelia and senecio trees. This day is vital for your body to adjust.

🗓️ Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp
The day starts with the thrilling Barranco Wall—a hands-on scramble offering incredible views from the top. From there, we trek through ups and downs in the alpine desert to Karanga Camp, our base for lunch and overnight rest.
This is a shorter day to allow recovery and gradual acclimatization before heading toward high camp.

🗓️ Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp
Today we ascend steadily through dry alpine terrain to Barafu Camp (4,673m)—your launchpad for summit night. You’ll arrive in the early afternoon to rest, hydrate, and prep for the final push.
After an early dinner, it’s lights out. Wake-up call comes around 11:00 PM for the midnight summit attempt.

🗓️ Day 6: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp
Summit day! Under the stars, we climb steeply up volcanic scree toward Stella Point (5,756m). From here, it’s a final ridge walk to Uhuru Peak (5,895m)—the roof of Africa.
After photos and celebration, we descend carefully back to Barafu Camp for a break, then continue down to Mweka Camp in the rainforest zone.

🗓️ Day 7: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi
Our final descent is lush and scenic, winding through dense rainforest teeming with birds and monkeys. We arrive at Mweka Gate, receive your summit certificate, and drive back to Moshi—where a hot shower and cold drink await!
